I guess the logs will say more, but all the other steps went smoothly as far as I can tell, so I'll just get to posting them. All folders/icons still not displaying though. Once I had avast running, and finished the MBAM instructions (it gave me the restart prompt and I clicked yes) the System Check pop ups, error pop ups, and hard drive notifications all stopped. It seemed to work, though it still took almost 5 hours of scanning (before Vista even booted to desktop). #Cooper software downloads fullThis was recommended on another forum when the full scan takes too long (it was at 0% for almost 30 minutes). The only thing I did that wasn't exactly as instructed was schedule a boot scan with avast. I followed the 5 Step Preliminary removal instructions. This was when I actually googled these symptoms and found this forum. So I rebooted.Īfter rebooting none of folders/icons showed up, even in the start menu. I suspected it was malware when all my desktop items disappeared, and all my folders/icons were faded white (like when you hide it). A few minutes later I got the fake hard drive failure notifications, the 20-something error pop-ups, and the System Check window itself. I first noticed half of my desktop icons were missing, whilst the rest were faded black. I came across these forums shortly after googling the System Check malware which effected my computer today.
